Amazon.com The late John Lennon's life and work are plainly visible in this stirring collection of short films and music videos, some very familiar while others, produced posthumously, will be new to many viewers. The set includes the classic "Imagine" clip, which begins with a haunting scene of John and Yoko walking through an early morning fog and concludes with Lennon's performance in an all-white room. More rare is a Top of the Pops live performance of "Instant Karma" and a wonderful film accompanying "Mind Games," in which a solo Lennon clowns around Central Park, thrilling passersby, playing with kids, and dancing. "Woman" is a montage of the last days and hours of Lennon's life, while "Watching the Wheels" is a compilation of home movie footage from the star's semi-reclusive Dakota years. Extras include a live "Slippin' and Slidin'," and a startling bit of "Julia" absentmindedly picked on guitar. --Tom Keogh

If you love John Lennon January 31, 2010 Thomas C. Taylor (palm bay fl) I have been a huge Beatles fan since 1964 and this is a really GREAT DVD of John and his music.Do not wait to order this DO IT NOW !!!!!!!!!!
worth it for the SOUND July 16, 2009 Si Raja Iwan Fals (USA) Many of the songs here don't fade out as we usually know them, so we get a few tantalizing seconds more of Instant Karma, for example.
The 5.1 mix works a treat, completely opening up a song like Mind Games. And (if you're into such things) the 5.1 mix means you can isolate various channels and scrutinize the recordings in more detail.
This is certainly the best you'll hear solo John sounding. More please!
Of the videos about half are John's original films, nicely cleaned-up.
The rest are "new" videos.... mostly montages of familiar footage, and outtakes of familiar footage, and all quite enjoyable.
But...
Cold Turkey is awkward: lip-syncing the 1969 single to a 1972 live clip just seems odd, especially as a promo video was made at the time. Lip-syncing it to footage from Live Peace in Toronto would have made more sense.
Happy Xmas (War is Over) is pure filler: stock news footage of disaster, famine, disease. Uncomfortable once-only viewing.
Worst offender is the director's "interpretation" of Working Class Hero -- the title page of Catcher in the Rye slowly soaking with blood -- a horrible idea that flies in the face of Yoko's request that no-one mention her husband's killer's name, and deny him his notoriety. Yet here is an "official" Lennon video pampering straight to the killer's fantasies. For someone as controlling as Yoko Ono, it's odd how that one got through.
Thank You Yoko & All Involved May 14, 2009 Mike Zlotnicki (Nashville, Tennessee,USA) Being a fan of John's for 46 of the last 51 years, the sound of his voice in DTS brought tears to my eyes. The videos created in these last 29 years without him are really thoughtfully created. This DVD was SO much more than I had expected. Recommended Highly.
(WITH THIS) THERE'S NO PROBLEM, ONLY SOLUTIONS June 19, 2008 JON STRICKLAND (Smithfield, NC United States) This is a great DVD featuring the solo efforts of John Lennon, who was the first half of the creative force of the greatest pop and rock group of all time, The Beatles. The videos are good, and the music is great. The essence of Lennon is well encapsulated in this release.
The sound quality is superb, especially in either Dolby or DTS 5.1. Each track sounds better now than when it was dominating the airwaves, especially when FM radio was a novelty. Great care and mastering of this newly packaged arrangement are prevalent from start to finish.
In sum, Lennon Legend-The Very Best of John Lennon is a reintroduction of the talented artistry of the former Beatle to longtime, perhaps even erstwhile, fans who will likely develop a whole new appreciation of an entertainer whose life was cut way too short. The music contained is a testament of such great quality showmanship and philosophical depth that Lennon, over a quarter century after his demise, is winning and inspiring generations of new fans.
Thanks for the memories, Mr. Lennon.
Where Are the Original Lennon Videos? May 27, 2007 Scott T. Rivers (Los Angeles, CA USA) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" This uneven DVD compilation replaces the original John Lennon videos of "Stand By Me," "Cold Turkey," "Nobody Told Me," "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" and "Give Peace a Chance" with disappointing revisions. Fortunately, the "Imagine," "Woman," "Mind Games" and "Instant Karma" clips remain unscathed. The special features are a welcome addition - particularly John's final live performance in 1975. However, the overall collection represents a mixed bag for Lennon scholars, who deserve to see the original music videos as nature intended.
